Putter Length Chart
Stock putters are sold in a startlingly narrow band of lengths. Of the 61 current models across 8 brands whose manufacturer publishes a stock-length list, 43 are offered in 33 inches, 61 are offered in 34 inches and 60 are offered in 35 inches, and 1 in 32 inches. Every single one of those 61 models is offered in 34 inches, which makes 34 the only length manufacturers actually agree on. The table below is a record of what each manufacturer lists, not a fitting recommendation. A chart that maps your height to an inch figure is guidance, not a specification — the published versions of it disagree with each other, so Stymie does not publish one. What fitters measure instead is set out in how to find your putter length.

Putter length availability by model
Stock lengths as listed on each manufacturer's own specification page — 61 models from 8 brands. A tick means the maker lists that model at that length; a dash means it does not. This is availability, not a recommendation, and it says nothing about custom or aftermarket builds, which no manufacturer publishes as a spec.

Models not sold in 33 inches
This is the fact the chart exists to surface, and it is hard to find anywhere else: 18 of the 61 models with published lengths are not offered in 33 inches at all. If 33 inches is your number, a stock purchase of one of these is not on the table — anything shorter is a custom-order or aftermarket question, and it is not something the manufacturer’s specification promises.
- Cleveland (5 models) — HB SOFT Milled 10.5S (34 in and 35 in), HB SOFT Milled 11 (34 in and 35 in), HB SOFT Milled 4 (34 in and 35 in), HB SOFT Milled 8 (34 in and 35 in) and Huntington Beach SOFT 10.5C (34 in)

Stock lengths not published by the manufacturer
(37 models)These models are missing from the matrix above for one reason: their manufacturer publishes no stock-length list in the official specification. That covers Bettinardi (12), PXG (11), Ping (12) and TaylorMade (2). Stymie leaves the field blank rather than assuming, and the assumption would be a bad one — 18 of the 61 models that do publish lengths skip 33 inches, so “everyone offers 33, 34 and 35” is simply not true. If you came here looking for an Anser, a Ping mallet or a PXG and could not find it, this is why.
How to find your putter length
Manufacturers have already answered “what is standard”, and the answer is narrower than the internet suggests: of the 61 current models with published stock lengths, 43 are sold in 33 inches, 61 are sold in 34 inches and 60 are sold in 35 inches. Every one of them is sold in 34 inches. Your length is almost certainly one of those numbers. The question is which one.
What a fitter actually measures
- Take your normal putting posture over a ball, with your eyes over the ball or just inside it.
- Let your arms hang from the shoulders without reaching, and note where your hands naturally come together.
- The right length puts the grip into your hands in that posture — you should not have to stand taller to reach it or crouch further to get down to it.
- The number a fitter writes down is your wrist-to-floor measurement taken in that posture, not your height. It varies independently of height, because arm length and how much you bend over the ball vary from golfer to golfer.
Stymie does not publish an inch-by-inch mapping from wrist-to-floor to putter length, for the same reason it publishes no height chart: no manufacturer publishes one either, so there is nothing to cite and any figure would be invented.
What about the height charts?
Height charts are a starting point, not a fitting. Two golfers of identical height can need putters an inch apart, because arm length and how much you bend over the ball differ — which is why the height charts published around the web disagree with each other at the margins. Stymie doesn't publish one. If you want a single starting point: 34 inches is the length every current model in this chart is offered in, and it is the middle of the stock range for a reason. Go shorter if you crouch, longer if you stand tall, and treat anything beyond that as a fitter's question.
Is there a legal limit on putter length?
Barely. Under the Equipment Rules, Part 2 (Conformance of Clubs), a club must be at least 18 inches long, and the 48-inch maximum that applies to every other club explicitly does not apply to putters. So there is a minimum and, for putters, effectively no maximum. What the Rules restrict instead is anchoring the club against your body during the stroke, which is a rule about how a long putter is used rather than how long it may be.
Putter length — frequently asked
What is the standard putter length?
There is no single standard, but the stock range is remarkably narrow. Of the 61 current models whose manufacturer publishes a stock-length list, 43 are sold in 33 inches, 61 are sold in 34 inches, 60 are sold in 35 inches, and 1 in 32 inches. Every one of those 61 models is offered in 34 inches, which makes 34 the closest thing to a standard that manufacturers actually agree on. Your answer is almost certainly one of those numbers; the question is which.
What length putter do I need for my height?
Height alone will not answer it, which is why Stymie does not publish a height-to-length chart. Two golfers of the same height can need putters an inch apart, because arm length and how far you bend over the ball vary independently of height — and that is exactly why the height charts published elsewhere disagree with each other at the margins. What a fitter actually records is your posture and wrist-to-floor measurement in your putting stance, not your height. As a starting point rather than a fitting: 34 inches is the length every model in this chart is offered in, go shorter if you crouch over the ball, longer if you stand tall, and treat anything past that as a question for a fitter.
Which putters come in 33 inches?
43 of the 61 models with published lengths are offered in 33 inches. The availability matrix on this page marks every one of them, model by model, and the 18 models that are not sold in 33 inches at all are named underneath it.
Why do putter length charts disagree with each other?
Because they are all publishing the same guess in different words. A height-to-length chart is a fitting heuristic built on the assumption that arm length and posture scale with height, and they do not — so one chart puts a 5ft 10in golfer at 34 inches and the next puts them at 35, and neither is measuring anything. Nothing in a manufacturer's specification maps a body height to a putter length, so there is no authoritative version of that chart to copy. The only length figures on this page that are specifications are the stock lengths each manufacturer lists.
Is there a maximum putter length?
Effectively no. Under the Equipment Rules, a club must be at least 18 inches long, and the 48-inch maximum that applies to every other club explicitly does not apply to putters. What the Rules of Golf do restrict is anchoring — holding the club against your body during the stroke — which is what governs how a long putter may be used, rather than any limit on the length itself.
Why are some models missing lengths on this chart?
Because their manufacturer publishes no stock-length list. 37 of the 98 models Stymie tracks have no lengths in their official specification, so they are listed separately at the bottom of this page rather than filled in with the lengths their competitors happen to offer. Guessing would be easy and it would be wrong: 18 of the 61 models that do publish lengths skip 33 inches entirely, so there is no safe default to assume.
How Stymie sources these numbers
Every length in the matrix is a stock length listed on the manufacturer's own specification page, and each model records the URL it was read from. That definition is deliberately narrow: it is the set of lengths a brand says it builds a model in, not the set of lengths the model can be made to exist in. Custom builds, tour departments and aftermarket shortening all sit outside it, because none of them are published as a specification. Where a brand publishes no length list at all, the field stays empty — 61 of 98 models have manufacturer-backed lengths and 37 do not. Nothing on this page maps a body measurement to a putter length, because no manufacturer publishes that mapping and inventing one would make every real number here worth less.
Length gets the putter comfortable in your hands. Balance is the spec that decides whether it matches your stroke — that one is on the toe hang chart.
